Regina snarled at a third year to get out of her way, he was almost in front of the door. He whimpered and ran off, leaving her somewhat satisfied.

She shoved the door open, and stalked the already seated students who immediately were silent at her entrance.

"This lesson will be devoted to the identification and preparation of various potions ingredients, which will be used in a future lesson. I certainly would not allow any of you to prepare a potion without knowing if you could identify the components."

She laid out a blue speckled feather on the table, a large something that looked fairly like a black slug, a black egg and a few other ingredients.

She then pulled out a basket full of yellow tinged leaves still attached to their stalks, and began to distribute them to the students.

"Put on your gloves immediately, and begin removing these leaves from their stems. The leaves are to be placed whole on your left, and the stems are to be sliced diagonally into three inch slices. Juices are to be cleaned from your chopping boards before removing your gloves."

Mallory raised her hand and identified the feather as belonging to a Jobberknoll, and began preparing her ingredients quietly.

She removed the leaves and placed them in a neat pile, careful not to bruise them. She sliced the stems according to instructions, and cleaned her cutting board as ordered, and looked up expectantly, hoping there was nothing else to do.

"Correct Miss Benson, this is in fact a jobberknoll feather." Regina reluctantly admitted as if the act of giving a student recognition made her physically ill.
It did, actually.

She hated the students, excepting the ones in Slytherin, and wished she could come up with a really dangerous assignment that would finish most of them off. She continued to scowl and stalk the rows, hoping to find someone in error so she could assign a detention. She hated doing the prepwork on some of the more common ingredients herself and it seemed like a good way of passing the workload on.
